Mouse Cages:
Housing your mouse is as important as choosing him, as a good quality cage play's an important roll in his well being.
Points to look for when choosing his Cage:
Construction should be of good quality wire, make sure the gaps between the wire are sufficiently close for him not to be able to squeeze through. Do not purchase a hamster cage for a mouse, he will get through the bars.
One section of the cage must have a private sleeping/shelter area. There are many mouse houses of all shapes and sizes on the market.
The doorways must give easy access to all areas of the cage for cleaning, some have removable base trays, these are better. Use a good quality animal cage cleaner.
Bedding and litter
Cover the base of the cage with wood shavings, these will absorb any moisture. Change regularly. In the bedding area, tease apart the mouse bedding and place inside or outside the sleeping quarters, your pet will make his own bed.
Breeding Quarters:
If you intend breeding your mice then choose a large cage as it will have to house mother and babies.
Recreation for your pet: Like all animals mice like to play. You can provide them with a range of toys from mouse wheels, see-saws, climbing frames, blocks with many holes, ramps and slides. They will play for hours.
